Misplaced Priorities?

Imagine that you know you are going to live to the age of one hundred. Now imagine you have to spend the first five minutes of your conscious adult life in another country. For those five minutes, you have to live under that country's leadership and rules. You have to live within its culture. After your five minutes are up, you get to return to your home country where you will live out the remaining decades of your life.

How much of your time and energy are you going to focus on your five minutes in the other country as opposed to the many decades in your home country? Would it be wise to spend almost all of your time focused on the five minutes as opposed to the one hundred years?

Now imagine that you know you are going to live to the age of one hundred in whatever nation you live in now. After your hundred years are up, you will (if you are a Christian) live for eternity in a new heavens and new earth. How much of your time and energy are you going to focus on one as opposed to the other?

What are we spending the bulk of our time focused on and obsessing about? Our five minutes here? Or our eternal home?
